TAI LE
Tai Le is an architectural designer based in Pittsburgh who recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon—Architecture with a Master of Architecture degree. His work investigates the relationship between human experience, cultural identity, and social equity, exploring how architecture can respond meaningfully to local environments, traditions, and communities. In 2026, he received the prestigious AIA Medal for Academic Excellence, awarded to the top-ranking graduating student in an NAAB-accredited architecture program. His work has also received international recognition, including the Architecture MasterPrize Student Category Winner in 2024 and the Gold Award at the ARCASIA Students’ Architecture Competition in 2021.
Grounded in observation and material exploration, Tai’s design process often begins through hand drawing and physical model-making. Sketching becomes a way to think intuitively and freely, while models serve as tools to test spatial relationships, tectonics, and material behavior. These analog methods establish the foundation for later digital development, where projects are refined through structural evaluation, environmental analysis, and spatial organization. This ongoing dialogue between craft and technology remains central to his architectural approach.
In 2024, Tai was awarded the Gindroz Prize for Summer Travel and Study in Europe, supporting his 2025 research across Venice, Grado, and the Camargue. Through this work, he examined how vernacular construction methods, local materials, and environmental conditions shape sustainable forms of architecture and preserve cultural continuity. His academic and professional experiences have further expanded through workshops and collaborations in Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand, continuing to shape an approach to architecture that is environmentally responsive, culturally grounded, and socially engaged.
