TAI LE
Tai is an architectural designer based in Pittsburgh, where he is completing his Master of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon—Architecture. His research explores the intersections of social justice, climate change, and artificial intelligence, examining how these forces can shape more ethical, adaptive, and inclusive futures for architectural practice. His work has been recognized through several international awards, including Gold Award at the ARCASIA Students’ Architecture Competition in 2021. Across his projects, he consistently investigates the relationship between architecture, community, and environmental responsibility.
Tai’s design process often begins through observation, reflection, and exploration using hand drawings and physical models. Sketching allows him to approach ideas intuitively and freely, while model-making provides a tangible way to test spatial relationships, material qualities, and structural logic. These analog methods form an essential foundation before projects are further developed through digital tools to refine form, evaluate structural performance, and organize space with greater precision. This balance between craft and technology remains central to his approach.
In 2024, Tai received the distinguished Gindroz Prize for Summer Travel and Study in Europe, supporting his 2025 research travel across Venice, Grado, and the Camargue. There, he studied how local materials, vernacular construction methods, and environmental conditions contribute to sustainable design and cultural identity. His academic and professional journey has also extended through workshops and collaborations in Japan, Philippines, and Thailand, experiences that continue to shape an architectural approach that is socially engaged, environmentally responsive, and culturally grounded.
